Overview of the Project

The project consists of 20 units, three-bedroom homes to accommodate families. Located in Dingle, a picturesque town known for its vibrant culture and tourism, the housing development provides much-needed residential space in a region where housing demand has steadily increased.

Timber-Frame Construction

Timber-frame construction was chosen for this project due to its numerous advantages, particularly in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency. Timber is a renewable material that has a lower environmental impact than traditional construction materials like concrete or steel. The lightweight nature of timber allows for quicker assembly, reducing construction time and associated costs. Additionally, timber-frame buildings offer excellent insulation, which helps maintain energy efficiency, keeping heating costs low for residents.

The prefabricated timber frames were assembled off-site, which streamlines the construction process and minimizes disruption to the surrounding community. This method also improves the precision and quality of the construction, ensuring that the homes are built to a high standard while meeting the energy performance requirements necessary for modern social housing.

Associated Site Works

Beyond the construction of the housing units themselves, the development included extensive site works to ensure full integration into Dingle’s infrastructure. This included road construction, drainage, water supply, and the installation of electricity and communications systems. The layout of the development was designed to foster a sense of community, with shared green spaces and pedestrian walkways to encourage interaction among residents.

Landscaping also played a key role in the project, incorporating local plants and greenery that blend the development with Dingle’s natural environment. These outdoor spaces not only enhance the aesthetics of the area but also provide residents with recreational areas.
